About Us

Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley seeks to reflect God's love by helping partner families achieve safe, decent, and affordable housing, while providing opportunities for community partners to use their God-given gifts.

Our Parent Organization

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.  HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.  HFHI has built or repaired more than 1,000,000 houses around the world, providing safe, decent, affordable shelter for more than 6,000,000 people.  Habitat was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller along with his wife Linda.

Statement of Christian Identity

Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley  is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization, dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and globally and to making adequate, affordable shelter a possibility for all God's children.  We welcome partners and volunteers who share our vision.

How Habitat Works

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans.  The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.  Partner families are chosen based on their need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.  Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor--sweat equity -- into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Volunteer Support

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley.  Besides working on the construction of houses, volunteers serve in a variety of other ways:  mentors, committee members, office helpers, ReStore workers, and more.  Often groups- churches, businesses clubs, sororities, schools- volunteer as teams. Persons interested in volunteering should contact us and plan to attend one of our orientations.

Giving to Habitat

The ministry of Habitat cannot continue without the support of generous donors.  Habitat receives one-time gifts as well as annual or multi-year pledges. Contributions may be designated to a specific build or given to help in the area of greatest need at the time of the gift.  Contributing donors include individuals, churches, businesses, families and other committed groups.  Gifts may be made in honor or memory of a loved one and will be properly acknowledged. In-kind donations which are suitable for our purposes are also accepted.  We kindly ask that you also consider remembering Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley in your will.  Please contact us about making a donation or simply mail your gift to:  Habitat for Humanity, 95 Three Rivers Drive, Rome, GA  30161.
