About Us

Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We seek to put God’s love into action, by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Founded in Americus, GA in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped build, renovated and repair more than 1 million decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 5 million people worldwide.

Habitat for Humanity - Coosa Valley was founded in 1984 based on the mission. While working in partnership with and on behalf of Habitat for Humanity International, we operate autonomously, choosing our own families, raising our own funds and building our own houses in Floyd, Chattooga and Polk counties.

Statement of Christian Identity

Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley  is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization, dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and globally and to making adequate, affordable shelter a possibility for all God's children.  We welcome partners and volunteers who share our vision.

How Habitat Works

Residents of Floyd, Chattooga and Polk counties who meet the basic requirements and income eligibility guidelines can apply. Habitat for Humanity - Coosa Valley serves families who are unable to buy a home through existing affordable housing options, but who are able to make consistent mortgage payments and who are willing to become a working partner with Habitat for Humanity - Coosa Valley. A Habitat home is a hand up, not a hand out.

In order to become a homeowner, qualifying families work side by side with volunteers during construction, renovations and repairs to cut cost and then families must repay the cost of building their home with a no interest charge. 100 % of the mortgage payments go back towards the funding of future houses.

Volunteer Support

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley.  Besides working on the construction of houses, volunteers serve in a variety of other ways:  mentors, committee members, office helpers, ReStore workers, and more.  Often groups- churches, businesses clubs, sororities, schools- volunteer as teams. Persons interested in volunteering should contact us and plan to attend one of our orientations.

The ministry of Habitat cannot continue without the support of generous donors.  Habitat receives one-time gifts as well as annual or multi-year pledges. Contributions may be designated to a specific build or given to help in the area of greatest need at the time of the gift.  Contributing donors include individuals, churches, businesses, families and other committed groups.  Gifts may be made in honor or memory of a loved one and will be properly acknowledged. In-kind donations which are suitable for our purposes are also accepted.  We kindly ask that you also consider remembering Habitat for Humanity-Coosa Valley in your will.  Please contact us about making a donation or simply mail your gift to:  Habitat for Humanity, 504 E First Ave, Rome, GA  30161.
